Year Of Women's Basketball To Be Discussed In Italy

26 October 2006

FIBA Europe will be hosting a coffee hour with media representatives, members of the EuroBasket Women 2007 Local Organising Committee and others involved with women's basketball to discuss the Year of Women's Basketball project.

The event will take place this Saturday at 9:30 am at the Esplanade Hotel in Pescara, Italy just prior to the EuroBasket Women 2007 Draw.

Year of Women's Basketball Project Manager Esther Wender will briefly present the initiative, which will then be followed by a roundtable discussion.

The roundtable discussion is intended to serve as an exchanging of ideas as to how the women's game can be promoted through the Year of Women's Basketball project.

Several special guests are scheduled to be in attendance, including Olympic track and field champion Sara Simeoni and Italian basketball legend Dino Meneghin.

"Many national federations have already taken concrete steps to incorporate the Year of Women's Basketball in the promotion of their respective countries' feminine leagues," said Wender.

"In correlation with the EuroBasket Women Draw, we decided to take the opportunity to meet in an informal setting so that we can all share our ideas on how to further promote women's basketball in Europe."
