Nadezhda Look To Bounce Back

08.04.2010

Anastasiya Veremeenko knows she and her Nadezhda teammates face a very difficult task in Athens on Thursday night as they attempt to hit back from a first-leg deficit to Sony Athinaikos and win the EuroCup Women.

The Greeks won the first leg last week in Orenburg, 65-57.

"It is a pity that we lost the first game by a difference of eight points," the Belarus international Veremeenko said, "but we would like to avenge that defeat. We will then analyze the mistakes and in other competitions show we learned from them."

No matter what happens, Veremeenko and her teammates will know that they have helped Nadezhda take a step forward in Russian basketball.

The club did well in the Russian Cup and has also reached the last four of the Superleague women play-offs.

"I think that this year, Nadezhda is quite successful," she said.

"We took third place in the Russian Cup and Regular Season Championship.

"But most important - we came to the EuroCup Women Finals! This is a gift for the club, and for the town as well.

"However, I am also glad that each year Nadezhda is progressing on an organizational level."

Veremeenko and her teammates are pioneers of sorts.

They will be remembered this year not just for the good results, but also because they have been at the forefront of women's basketball fashion.

"This season, our clothing was designed specifically for women, and I hope that the Nadezhda will hold the European cup in its hands with TUTA sportswear!" Veremeenko said.
