Former Italian star Mara Fullin was named the face for the Year of Women’s Basketball in Italy.
The Venice native was a staple in the Italian national team throughout the eighties and nineties.
She represented her country in the Barcelona’92 and Atlanta’96 Olympics in addition to playing in one World Championship and five European Championships. In all, she played in 199 games with the national team and scored 2,296 points.
At the club level, Fullin played for Vicenza from 1974-1989 and with Como from 1989-1998. Her teams won 15 Italian championships and four Italian Cups.
“Mara Fullin was a talented basketball player for years,” said Year of Women’s Basketball project manager Esther Wender.
“She is dedicated to women’s basketball and I believe she is the perfect individual to lead the Year of Women’s Basketball promotional efforts in Italy.”
Fullin is still actively involved with women’s basketball.
As of November 2005, she is the Team Director of the Italian Women’s National Team.
She served as an assistant coach of the senior and U20 teams from 1999-2002.
