The FIBA Europe Techno Centre team were in Madrid on Monday for a presentation at the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) headquarters.
The focus of the presentation was on the Digital Score Sheet (DSS) technology.
However, FIBA Europe Head of Operations Miguel Betancor and Antonio Ojeda of the FIBA Europe Techno Centre also informed FEB Secretary General Luis Gimenez and the Spanish federation's technology and sports departments about a wide array of developments in the field of technology that will become important to the sport of basketball in the coming years.
The FEB experts were enthusiastic about the DSS and studied the possibility of implementing the system on basketball courts across Spain in the near future.
"This was a very productive brainstorming session. Just like FIBA Europe, the Spanish Federation have proved time and time again, how much they are interested in the development of the game by means of promoting technology and technological solutions where needed," commented Miguel Betancor.
The Spanish federation consider the DSS system an important technological breakthrough and will further evaluate how they can use it to its full potential, so that it can benefit all clubs, coaches, players, referees and anyone involved in FEB competitions.
Furthermore, both FIBA Europe Techno Centre and FEB representatives agreed that this first meeting can serve as the beginning of a long-term collaboration in developing sport and social projects within the national and European basketball framework.
