Over the weekend in Prague, Czech Republic, mini basketball enthusiasts, coaches and specialists from around Europe met for the annual U14 Get Together.

For the first time ever, this year's event additionally included workshops specifically focusing on mini-basketball.

The main aim of the get together was to present a forum in which people working in mini basketball could come together and share their thoughts and ideas.

This included presentations by those involved in the successful implementation of mini basketball programmes in France, Slovenia, Germany and Italy, as well as specialists working in other youth sports, bringing a new perspective to how mini basketball can develop and be promoted.

Local mini basketball coach, Stefan Valek, provided practical sessions, using a number of his promising young female players to demonstrate a selection of drills and skills sessions.

"FIBA Europe recognises the importance of developing and assisting programmes that target those who are taking their first steps in the world of basketball," said the President of the FIBA Europe Youth Commission Asterios Zois, adding: "This was evidenced by the decision to convene a special Mini Basketball Convention aiming to bring together those people who work with kids of 11 years of age and younger and see with them in which way FIBA Europe could support their efforts."

Also in attendance at the get together was FIBA Europe youth development specialist Radmila Turner.

"This was one of the most fun things we have done this year," commented Turner, going on to say that the aim of "sharing good and practical ideas in a fun environment," was achieved.
