FIBA Europe announced two key personnel moves today with the addition of Mr. Nar Zanolin as Assistant Executive Director and Mr. Kosta Iliev as Assistant Sport Director.
Zanolin will occupy his position with immediate effect. He will then be presented to the Board of FIBA Europe at their meeting on 8th - 9th November, 2002 in Madrid, Spain. Upon the Board's ratification, he will be appointed Executive Director of FIBA Europe. This role is currently being filled on an ad interim basis by Mr. Patrick Baumann, who as of 1st January 2003 will take over the role of FIBA Secretary General from the retiring Mr. Borislav Stankovic.
Zanolin, a native of Canada, served as a FIBA international referee between 1974 - 1989 after which he was employed by the Secretariat of FIBA as Assistant to the Secretary General until 1996. He has since been working in various roles in European basketball before returning to FIBA Europe.
Iliev is a familiar face to those in European basketball as a former national team player for his native Bulgaria. He has worked for the Bulgarian Basketball Federation as the Secretary General and is currently the Managing Director of FIBA Europe's Conference South. He will co-operate closely with current Sport Director Mr. Lubomir Kotleba and take over the position of Sports Director on a full time basis as of the start of 2003.
