From 13 to 16 February the city of Malle, Belgium, hosted the third biannual International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Europe Technical Delegate Clinic.

14 IWBF Europe Technical Delegates welcomed three new candidates into the group for three days of seminars and a final day of examinations.

For the first time, the FIBA Europe Referee Department was involved in the technical delegates' clinic, continuing the good co-operation with IWBF Europe from previous referee clinics.

FIBA Europe was represented by Referee Instructor Davorin Nakic, who held a seminar on the role of the commissioner at FIBA Europe games and compared it to a technical delegate's duties, stressing the importance of timing and communication throughout the game.

Wouter Terryn, IWBF International Classifier, delivered a presentation covering the basic observations and processes involved in classifying players.

The seminars were completed by workshops on the DisSports software and discussions on the expectations of the technical delegate from pre-event preparations, event management through to the completion of the general report post-event.

"The job of the technical delegate is very complex and includes a lot of responsibilities. IWBF Europe and their group of technical delegates are very well organised, especially technologically," Nakic stated.

He pointed out the good atmosphere that ruled over the event, both during the official and unofficial parts, and the interest shown by all participants.

"Everybody was motivated and willing to learn and improve," Nakic said. "The technical delegates were interested to learn about the work of our game commissioners and happily shared their thoughts and experiences with us.

"The clinic was beneficial for both sides and further strengthened our bonds with IWBF Europe."

During the four-day event, time was also taken to present IWBF Europe's Secretary General Ron Coppenrath, who has decided to step down from this role, with a gift from the group presented by the new competitions director Dirk Cossaer. Coppenrath however will still remain involved with IWBF Europe via his role as Treasurer.
