FIBA Europe accepted an invitation of the Hungarian Basketball Federation to speak to students of Sports Management at Semmelweis University in Budapest.

Richard Stokes, Head of Competitions at FIBA Europe, analysed organising aspects of the various competitions that are organised by European basketball's governing body.

Over 80 students attended the lecture.

The lecture also included explanations on how the Competitions Department looks to work with federations, cities and volunteers to deliver the 14 to 16 tournaments that are organised each summer.

Hungary will host two European Youth Championships this year.

The U16 European Championship Women will be held in Miskolc, from 12 - 22 July 2012, while the U20 European Championship Women takes the stage from 16 - 26 August 2012 in Debrecen.

"We came to Hungary to finalise the organisation of two youth competitions in Miskolc and Debrecen," Stokes said.

"We have a great relationship with the federation here, they are always ready to host youth competition and of course they were recently awarded EuroBasket Women 2015.

"Knowing that we were coming, enabled them to arrange this lecture to a group of students who obviously want to work in sport after they graduate.

"The Secretary General of the Federation, Tamas Sterbenz, is also a lecturer here and he invited us to make a presentation to the students in order to show something a little different to the normal lectures," Stokes added.

FIBA Europe will be working with 12 National Federations and local organising committees in 16 venues to deliver youth and senior competitions this summer.
