Prague Czechs Out The 3on3 Tour

18 June 2012

The Czechs might be known for their passion for ice hockey and football, but basketball is making big strides in the country, thanks in no small part to the enormous popularity of the 3on3 discipline among the youth.

It came as little surprise then that a crowd of over 8,000 Prague residents and visitors flocked during the weekend to the Letnany commercial complex in the outskirts of the Czech capital to play in or watch games at the 3on3 Tour event.

The youth of Prague turned out in huge numbers to enjoy the 3on3 Tour event at the weekend

The event co-organisers, FIBA Europe, the Czech Basketball Federation (CBF) and Streetball Mania, had set up eight FIBA Europe 3on3 courts, two Streetball Mania courts and a ‘Funny Basketball' court for small children.

The courts stayed open from 13:00 to 19:00 on Saturday and from 13:00 to 20:00 on Sunday, but it hardly proved enough to satisfy demand.

The Czech international visited on both days and, succumbing to popular demand, he played in an improvised exhibition game against Saturday's 1on1 champion.

An 1on1 contest was held on both days, as well as the 3-point shoot-out and dunking contests.

Saturday's competition schedule included the Prague Qualifying Tournament, with the top three teams in each category qualifying for Sunday´s National Finals.
