Spain's players put on the performances of their lives but came up just short of upsetting the United States in the gold medal game at the Olympics.

Rudy Fernandez underlined his status as one of the hottest stars in international basketball with 22 points but the USA prevailed 118-107.

Olympics: Spain Edge Lithuania To Reach Final // 23 August 2008 Spain edged a semi-final thriller against Lithuania and will now take on the United States in Sunday's gold medal game at the Olympics. Without star point guard Jose Calderon because of an abductor injury, Spain overcame an excellent Baltic side with Felipe Reyes, Rudy Fernandez and Pau Gasol playing prominent roles in the 91-86 triumph.
