| FIBA Europe Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancour headed the Nordic Championships' Referee Clinic |
The annual Nordic Championships for seniors and juniors have been a long standing tradition in the Nordic countries, which have developed a reputation for working closely together to develop basketball.
This year's event included an innovation, a clinic for the accompanying referees, organised in cooperation with FIBA Europe. In the clinic the officials received a lot of feedback from FIBA Europe Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancour and their National Instructors.
Betancour, the referees and the federations involved hailed the clinic as a success with the long term goal remaining the development of the three person officiating system and the training of a national instructor in those countries who do not have one yet.
The organisers admitted that their plan for the future is for the tournament to grow in order to also involve a coaching clinic.
On the court hosts Sweden proved how strong their women's game is by winning both female categories, while Norway fielded a talented U18 men's team to grab their first tournament title in years.
The finals of the Nordic Championship:
Women
U18 Sweden - Denmark 77-42
U16 Sweden - Finland 68-53
Men
U18 Norway - Finland 50-43
U16 Sweden - Iceland 76-67
