28 February 2007

FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos, Secretary General Nar Zanolin and Sports Director Kosta Iliev met today with officials from the UBE (European Basketball Players Association) in Munich, Germany to finalise details about an exhibition game between the defending EuroBasket champions Greece and a European selection.

The game, which is being organised by FIBA Europe, the Hellenic Basketball Federation and the UBE, will take place in Athens on 30 June 2007.

The UBE was represented in the meeting by President Giuseppe Cassi, Secretary General Walter Palmer and Deputy Secretary General Anne Marie Litt.

“This game will be an ideal occasion to promote European basketball,” said Vassilakopoulos.

“It also marks the start of what will be a bi-annual event in which the defending EuroBasket champions play a European selection. Our collaboration with the UBE for this event further exemplifies that our organisations are continuing to work together in order to develop basketball in Europe.”

“The UBE is pleased to be a part of such an event,” added Cassi.

“It further highlights our positive working relationship with FIBA Europe.”
