With EuroBasket 2011 approaching fast, the decision of who gets to host the 2013 edition of Europe's most important Basketball event is also coming closer.
After the window for applications as a host country closed, FIBA Europe now announces the two candidates that filed their letters of interest.
Slovenia and Italy have formally declared interest in becoming future hosts in filing the respective documents to FIBA Europe.
"We are more than happy to have two countries with great basketball tradition competing to become the hosts of the EuroBasket" said FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson.
"Both countries have a great passion for basketball and it is always good when tradition and passion come together" added FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
The FIBA Europe Evaluation Commission will now start reviewing all the documents sent in by both candidates.
Next up are site visits by the Evaluation Commission in order to learn more about the progress in both potential host countries.
At a FIBA Europe Board meeting at the end of the year, both Italy and Slovenia will have the possibility to present their bid to the whole board of FIBA Europe.
The board will then decide who will become the host of the EuroBasket 2013.
