FIBA Europe Inspect EuroBasket 2011 Progress

"If anyone needed further proof that EuroBasket 2011 will be an outstanding event, here it is" commented a delighted Nar Zanolin after his visit to Kaunas Arena on October 22nd.

The FIBA Europe Secretary General went on a site visit to inspect the progress of the preparations to EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania next September.

After meeting with the Baltic country's Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, Zanolin took part in a presentation of the event for the foreign embassies in Vilnius.

Inspections of the Hotels that will serve as official team hotels during the EuroBasket were also part of the visit.

"With the expansion to 24 teams we need of course additional hotel rooms. I am very happy to see that our Lithuanian friends are making every effort to meet and actually surpass expectations" Zanolin commented.

"I am also more than satisfied with the progress made in the official game venues"

The delegation had visited the Alytus Sports Palace in Alytus, one of the host cities for the Preliminary Round.

At the press conference, held in Vilnius before the departure of the Secretary General, he spoke about the good impression he had, coming to Lithuania: "It is always great to come into a country where Basketball is by far the number one sport. It is in fact like a religion here. I cannot imagine a better host for the EuroBasket 2011."
