Spain: New Girls Shine In Supercopa

09.10.2006

New signings DeLisha Milton and Laia Palau both started as Ros Casares downed defending LEB champions Perfumerias Avenida 83-72 to win the Supercopa over the weekend.

Ros Casares, the 2005 Spanish champions who like Perfumerias are competing in the EuroLeague Women again this season, brought in the two superstars this summer after failing to reach last year´s LEB play-off finals.

And the duo both contributed in different ways to the Supercopa victory over Perfumerias in Salamanca.

American center Milton, who helped Gambrinus Brno win the EuroLeague Women title last season, poured in 12 points and hauled down five rebounds, while former Bourges ace Palau recorded only six points and four rebounds, but handed out a game-high six assists.

Ros Casares´ leading player though was the vastly experienced Elisa Aguilar, who scored 23 points including seven of nine from three-point range.

Ros Casares coach Esteban Albert said: "Elisa has been spectacular and she knows on many occasions that she is the one who has to lead the way in shooting, and once again she has had a great performance.

"There are many positives because we have won a title with very little training, but we have a lot of hard work to come and a very hard month ahead," Albert added.

For champions Perfumerias, who lost each of the four quarters in the Supercopa defeat, American duo Nicole Ohlde and Nikole Powell were outstanding.

Ohlde scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Powell added 19 points and seven rebounds.

The win sets Ros Casares up nicely for their opening FEB clash against Ensino on Thursday.

Perfumerias begin the defense of their title with a trip to MMT Estudiantes.
