Czech Republic: Katzurin Rues Defensive Frailty

CEZ Nymburk coach Muli Katzurin was left to rue defensive lapses after watching his side go down 93-87 at home to ASK Riga in a EuroCup Group F fixture on Wednesday evening.

Radoslav Rancik had an outstanding match in a losing cause as he poured in 22 points as well as hauling down 11 rebounds for the hosts.

But the Czech side did not defend with such aplomb - and that proved costly.

Katzurin told www.basket.idnes.cz: "We did not defend except for a couple of minutes in this game. We made big mistakes in defence in one-one-one situations, in switching - simply in everything.

"The players were under pressure right from the beginning because we started very badly."

Winning coach Ramunas Butautas was delighted with the two points.

The Riga boss said: "We knew Nymburk have a strong team. This team won the Czech league three time in a row, there are many players from abroad in their squad and they have a reputable coach as well.

"We are very happy we won but I have to say it was a very difficult game for us.

"Nymburk still have a chance to advance to the next phase of this competition, for sure."
