Volgaburmash March On

30 January 2006

BC Volgaburmash extended their 100% record at the top of the Superleague as they cruised to an 87-72 win over Dynamo Moscow.

Samara, who are through to the next round of the Euroleague Women - a competition they won last year - after finishing top of Group A, raced into a 33-6 lead in the first quarter before clinching a straightforward victory.

Newly signed duo Lilia Fattahova and Maria Nikitina made their Volgaburmash debuts in the second half, following their arrival from financially-troubled Kazan.

Despite the win, Volgaburmash head coach Igor Grudin demanded more from his players, saying: "I'm not satisfied as we only played well in parts - not for the whole game.

"We only played well in the first quarter and then we gave up playing. We also played poorly against Valencia and we must learn a lesson from such games".
