Ural Great Perm opened their EuroLeague Group G campaign with an 86-78 triumph over PBC CSKA Sofia on Wednesday.
Center Samuel Hoskin poured in 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the victors, ably supported by Derrick Tarver's 16-point haul.
The hosts came out of the blocks quickly and stormed into a 23-18 lead after the first quarter.
But Ural Great clawed their way back into the game in the second quarter, taking it 22-15 to establish a 40-38 advantage.
In the third, the game was tight as no team led by more than five points.
Ural Great then took control in the fourth.
The Russian side went on a 10-4 run to start the fourth, increasing their lead from 59-55 to 68-58.
CSKA got back to within six wih just over four minutes to play, but Ural Great answered by outscoring their opponents 11-5 over the next three minutes to secure the victory.
Tarver scored four of his 16 during the final Ural Great Spurt.
CSKA center Gregory Danielson was the match's top-scorer with 23 points and 10 rebounds, with Deon Thomas (15) and Bradley Traina (14) also making significant contributions in a losing cause. |
