| Smodis, who signed a three-year contract with CSKA this week, won the 2001 Italian Championship under Messina at Virtus Bologna, as well as the 2001 Euroleague and two Italian Cups, before leaving for Climamio Bologna in 2003.
"Of course, it's very important for me that Ettore Messina is the CSKA head coach," Smodis told the official CSKA website.
"I hope that our mutual work will be as fruitful and interesting as it was before."
The Slovenian power forward, 26, spent the last five years playing in the Italian Championship, where he averaged 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds last season with Climamio.
However he admitted it was not a tough decision for him to join CSKA.
"I was amazed by the atmosphere at CSKA when I came to the club for the first time for the medical check-up," he added.
"The players that met me were wonderful. I understood that CSKA is like a big, friendly family and I wanted to join them.
"I'll join CSKA along with all the players at the end of August." |
