Ukraine: Azovmash Post 13th Superliga Win, Re-sign Buford

30 January 2007

Azovmash, the only remaining Ukrainian team in the EuroCup, earned their 13th win in the Superliga at the weekend by beating Krivbasbasket 96-85.

Khalid El-Amin was the top scorer for Azovmash with 25 points while Slaven Rimac weighed in with 22.

Rodney Buford has returned to Azovmash after spending an unsuccessful three months with Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

The 1.98m forward played a significant role for the Ukrainian club in their Superliga and national cup title-winning campaign of 2005-06.

Buford is expected to make his debut on Tuesday when Azovmash face Maroussi in Round II, Group J action of the EuroCup.

BC Kyiv, who hosted the EuroCup Final Four last year, suffered their second defeat of the campaign when falling to Sumykhimprom at home in a 72-71 thriller.

Kyiv did not take the lead until the fourth quarter when Milan Dozet made a pair of three-pointers for a 59-57 advantage.

After Sumykhimprom went back in front, a LaMarr Greer three-ball put Kyiv back in front by two.

Sumykhimprom came back again, however, with three free throws earning them a 72-71 victory although Kyiv's Yevhen Annenkov missed a shot at the buzzer.

Milan Dozet had 16 points for BC Kyiv.

In another game, Khimik Yuzhny beat MBC Mykolaiv 81-68.
