Russia: Lokomotiv Roll On

Sergey Toporov and Maurice Edward Bailey tore apart Dynamo Moscow Region in the decisive first quarter to lead Lokomotiv Rostov to an 84-73 triumph in their Superleague contest.

In the battle of EuroCup sides, Lokomotiv led 9-8 when Toporov hit back-to-back three-pointers.

After Dynamo's Nikita Morgunov and Bailey each made a pair of free throws, Toporov struck again inside the arc for a 19-10 advantage.

Bailey then scored Lokomotiv's last six points of the quarter to stretch their lead to 25-11 and they marched to victory.

Toporov led all scorers with 20 points while Bailey had 17.

Meanwhile, defending Superleague champions CSKA Moscow won at Sibirtelekom-Lokomotiv Novosibirsk 76-69 on Tuesday, and then 89-68 at University-Ugra Surgut.

The team that finished runners-up in last season's EuroCup, BC Khimki, have signed former Dynamo St Petersburg players Kelly McCarty and Vladimir Veremeenko.

McCarty has signed a one-year deal with an option for another season while Veremeenko who has joined the club on loan.

Both played on the St Petersburg side that won the FIBA Europe League two seasons ago and reached last year's EuroCup Final Four.

Spartak St Petersburg have signed 23-year-old American guard Patrick Sparks, who played for the Kentucky Wildcats last season.

Dynamo Moscow's 22-year guard Sergei Romanov is recovering from an operation on his knee joint after getting hurt in training and could miss up to six months.
