Charleroi Fail To Knock Lokomotiv Off The Rails

13.02.2007

Spirou Charleroi led early on and battled until the end at Lokomotiv Rostov but the Russian team came back from a first-quarter deficit to post a 75-66 triumph.

Lokomotiv, with the success, improved to 3-2 in Group K and hit the inside track for a quarter-final place in the EuroCup while Charleroi slumped to 1-4 and saw their hopes of reaching the last eight die.

The team from Belgium meant business as Kris Sergeant's three-pointer sparked an 8-0 run for a 12-7 lead.

Lokomotiv then surged ahead with Sergey Toporov's three-pointer putting them in front for good at 14-12 with 1:57 to go.

They would end up scoring 10 straight points for a 17-12 advantage.

A 7-2 mini-spurt near the end of the half gave the Superleague side a 33-24 lead and though Charleroi's Corey Lavelle Brewer hit a three-ball to trim the deficit to 33-27 at half-time, Lokomotiv managed to keep their noses in front the rest of the way.

Toporov and Kresimir Loncar each had 16 points to pace Lokomotiv.
