Lemesos Roll To Big Win Against Amsterdam

14.11.2006

DTL EKA AEL Lemesos bounced back from last week's defeat to ASVEL in the EuroCup by thrashing Amsterdam Astronauts 82-49 in Cyprus.

The Dutch team, brushed aside with ease on their home floor by Virtus Bologna in their opener, were again overmatched.

A Remon van de Hare tap-in sparked an 11-0 run in the first quarter that gave the hosts a 13-4 lead and they cruised to a decisive triumph.

In that early surge, Milutin Aleksic made consecutive lay-ups, Georgios Palalas drilled a three-pointer and Van de Hare sank a jump shot.

With Amsterdam trying to stay in touch, Lemesos reeled off 10 straight points to gain an unassailable lead at 38-17 with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Michael King's three-pointer on the stroke of half-time left Igors Miglinieks' men 47-23 ahead.

Amsterdam found no way back into the game in the second half.

Aleksic led the winning side with 15 points and Jeron Roberts added 14.

Amsterdam shot the ball poorly all over the court.

At the line, they were 11 of 19 (57.8%), while from the floor they made just 18 of 59 shots, including two of 13 from three-point range.
