Azovmash Triumph In Hungary

21.11.2006

Azovmash Mariupol claimed a deserved 80-73 win over Group C basement boys Atomeromu SE Paks, but the Hungarians made it tough.

The visitors led for most of the match but found a stubborn Atomeromu outfit hard to shake off.

Avzomash led 24-17 at the end of the first quarter and had doubled their advantage midway through the second as they poured in 10 unanswered points including back-to-back three-pointers from Slaven Rimac.

The hosts stormed back in the third quarter thanks to an in-form Marcellus Sommerville, who claimed seven points in 90 seconds to cut the deficit to one at 48-47, and a pair of lay-ups from Laszlo Czigler briefly established a lead for the Hungarians.

But that spurred the visitors into action and they had built a 10-point lead going into the final quarter.

That advantage went as high as 14 points when Khalid El-Amin claimed two consecutive two-pointers and, though Atomeromu rallied, the Ukrainians held firm for the win.
