Vintage Viteckova Leads Gambrinus To Huge Win

Eva Viteckova received a lot of votes for the FIBA Europe Player of the Year award and judging from her performance on Tuesday in the EuroLeague Women, she deserved every one of them.

The Czech international underlined her status as the best long-range shooter in Europe by making seven of 11 shots from three-point range en route to a game-high 33 points in Gambrinus' 73-58 win at Spartak Moscow Region.

The victory means Gambrinus, the defending champions in the competition, are one victory away from reaching the Final Four.

"There are great players in Spartak but we played like a team and we won because of that," Viteckova said to

"The home team was a big favourite, but we had nothing to lose. Our form went up in last couple of days and we confirmed it in Moscow."

Gambrinus built a 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter but Spartak fought back and trailed by just one at half-time.

Viteckova and Co reasserted themselves in the third quarter, outscoring their hosts 24-14 and then cruised in the final quarter.

Jan Bobrovsky, the Gambrinus coach, said: "The girls did great work. I think it was the best performance of my team in the EuroLeague this season.

"We want to win at home on Friday."

Hana Machova, the Gambrinus captain, added: "I do not want to travel to Russia again, so we will win on Friday.

"We played a great game in Moscow because we were not nervous. We have to play like that at home again."
