16.01.2007

DTL EKA AEL Lemesos notched their first win in Round II of the EuroCup with a 79-74 success against Liege Basket in Limassol.

The Cypriots were deserving winners after holding the lead after the fourth minute of the first period.

Liege had made a solid start but two free throws from Jeron Roberts dragged the hosts level and two more successful attempts from the charity stripe from Milutin Aleksic gave the home team an advantage they would not relinquish.

Once in front, DTL looked in complete control.

They were 20-16 up at the end of the first and extended their advantage to 39-31 by half-time.

Liege did get within three at 48-45 with 3:34 left in the third period but DTL immediately went on a 9-0 run from which there was no comeback.

The home side were led by Roberts' 16 points although Aleksic had a fine all-round game with 15 and eight rebounds.

Karim Souchu and Stephane Pelle had 19 points each for the Belgians in a losing cause.

The result means both sides now have a 1-1 record in Group I.
