France: ASVEL Turn Attention To Domestic Matters

19.01.2007

Adecco ASVEL's sporting manager Pierre Grall looking for his side to make up for their disappointing EuroCup campaign by picking up some domestic silverware and achieving a top-two finish.

The Villeurbanne club crashed out of European competition at the first hurdle but since then they have regained their domestic form and are already qualified for next month's Semaine des As.

They sit in joint fourth position in Pro A and Grall has set out his targets for the rest of the season.

"The aim is to win a trophy and finish in the top two or three in the regular season," he said.

"We are only two wins from that position, so our objective is not out of reach. We must keep our concentration from now until the end of the season."

Grall said their early exit from the EuroCup was partially due to a bad run of injuries, but also said some complacency had set in, especially in the game against Limassol.

"Injuries were an important element in our failure," he added.

"We played with a weakened team in Limassol and Bologna. But we underestimated the strength of the Limassol team. They had a lot of quality, and they have shown that in the European results at home for some years. It was a real failure."
