Adecco ASVEL coach Yves Baratet remained upbeat after seeing his injury-plagued side dumped out of the EuroCup following a heavy loss to Virtus Bologna.
The 91-73 defeat to the dominant Italians on Tuesday night put ASVEL on a 2-3 record, meaning they are unable to secure a top-two finish in Group H.
Baratet was only able to field a squad of seven players for the match and it showed as Virtus gradually asserted their authority on the game.
A late flurry of points at the end of the second quarter gave the visitors a 40-33 lead at the break and they did not look back, Christian Drejer finishing with 29 points.
Baratet was nevertheless proud of his team's display and insists there is still plenty to play for this season.
"We fought hard and that allowed us to put up some resistance, until we caved in and in the end lost," he said on club website www.asvel.com.
"It was very difficult for us."
"We are bitter about getting knocked out of the EuroCup, because we wanted to get to the second round. "
"But we have other aims and ambitions this year. There are plenty more adventures to live throughout this season."
Amara Sy was the stand-out performer for ASVEL, pouring in 16 points in a losing cause. |
