Vojvodina emerged winners in the clash of the undefeated Nasa Liga leaders and the league MVP in Cacak on Sunday.
Borac's Zoran Osmokrovic missed a game-winning shot at the buzzer as his team went down 77-76 to the EuroCup participants.
Osmokrovic's shot from the arc just missed the basket after another stirling performance saw him shoot 25 points, adding six assists to keep his team in the game throughout.
But after Dusan Djordjevic moved Vojvodina closer to the win from the line, luck finally ran out for the home team and the league's most valuable player as they were narrowly beaten.
"Borac were very good today, and their fans were like the wind at their back," said Vojvodina coach Velimir Gasic.
"It was very hard for us to maintain our undefeated record, but we've succeeded, mostly because of our good defense."
Vladimir Golubovic also helped with with 18 points and eight rebounds. Gasic' smile will have grown a little broader when he heard the results from elsewhere as second-placed Mega Ishrana were shocked by the league's last-placed team, Napredak 79-74.
Napredak turned it around in the final quarter, outscoring their opponents 24-15.
Vladimir Radmanovac scored three crucial free-throws in that period and finished the match with 15 points for only a third victory this season for the hosts.
The loss for Mega allows both Sloga and Radnicki to match their 8-5 record.
Sloga defeated Swisslion 83-74 and Radnicki outplayed Masinac 78-65.
Milos Bojovic starred with 30 points and seven rebounds for Sloga, while Milan Janusevic's 24 points and 15 rebounds was the difference in Radnicki's win.
In other matches on Sunday, OKK Beograd defeated Ergonom 71-70, with Gorjan Radonjic netting a three-pointer two seconds from the time to seal the win, while Zdravlje surprised Novi Sad with a 87-67 triumph.
Ivan Miceta netted 20 points and nine rebounds as Zdravlje improved to 5-8. |
