Vojvodina Srbijagas may be suffering in the opening stages of European competition, but the country's only representative in the EuroCup won for the seventh time in a row in the Serbian basketball championship.
The latest win came in in the preliminary phase of the competition, where 12 clubs are competing for just four places in the Superleague.
Vojvodina's victory was in the derby match against second-placed Mega Ishrana 98-94 after an instrumental performance by Dusan Djordjevic.
The guard scored 22 points, including 12 in the last quarter, and also weighed in with seven assists and five steals as he put in a match-winning performance to guide the hosts to a thrilling win.
Veteran playmaker of the Belgrade side, Branko Milosavljevic, scored 31 points for visitors, who threw the game away after conceding five consecutive points in the game's penultimate minute.
"We played well at the start and at the end of match," said Vojvodina's coach Velimir Gasic.
"We managed to win despite all of our injury worries."
"Even when our opponents turned an 11 point deficit (29-18) into an eight point lead (59-67), my players never gave up and tried their best to win this derby," he added.
Mega Ishrana are now joint second place with Masinac who won a thriller in 80-78 against Swisslion in Vrsac.
Home guard Vladimir Vlaskovic grabbed a rebound after deliberately missing a free-throw in the final seconds, but then failed to send the game into overtime.
Igor Mijajlovic led the point scoring for the visitors netting 16, two more then his team-mate Uros Mirkovic.
In other matches Borac defeated Novi Sad 94-92 in a game which saw Zoran Osmokrovic contribute a season-high nine assists and 19 points for winners.
Beograd completed only their second victory by outplaying favourites Radnicki 95-79 with Gorjan Radonjic and Nenad Stefanovic scoring 22 points apiece for hosts.
Sloga crushed Zdravlje 73-45 thanks to a strong defensive performance but also had a brilliant 28-point contribution from Milos Bojovic, who also had eight steals to his name.
In the final game, Ergonom needed overtime to overcome winless Napredak 100-99. |
