Virtus Bologna overcame the disappointment of Friday’s semi-final loss against Azovmash Mariupol to claim victory against MMT Estudiantes in the game for third place at the EuroCup Final Four in Girona.

In what proved to be a lacklustre affair, Bologna managed to build a small lead in the first quarter which they then protected with little difficulty for the remainder of the contest.

They may have entered the EuroCup Final Four as the unknown team. But after a 74-73 victory over Virtus Bologna in the first semi-final, everyone knew about Azovmash.

The Ukrainain outfit got off to a red hot start and then held their composure down the stretch to advance to the EuroCup title game this Sunday.

Virtus coach Zare Markovski could not hide his disappointment after watching a potential game-winning shot by Brett Blizzard hit the inside of the rim and fall out in the closing seconds which sealed his side 74-73 loss.

As a result, the Italian outfit fell short in their goal of winning a European title.
