Virtus Suffer Fourth Straight Setback

05 March 2007

Virtus Bologna's dismal run continued on Sunday with a 78-77 loss to Lottomatica Roma.

The defeat, narrow as it might have been, makes it four straight losses for Zare Markovski's team, who came into the game having lost two in the league, sandwiching a EuroCup setback against Akasvayu Girona.

David Hawkins and new signing Erazem Lorbek each had 20 points for Lottomatica, who outrebounded their opponents 35-28.

For Virtus, Vlado Ilievski had 19 points and Dusan Vukcevic 14. Ilievski made three of five from three-point range as Virtus made nine of 16 (56.3%) from beyond the arc.

The defeat means Virtus slip to 14-7, level with Armani Jeans Milano who got 19 points each from Danilo Gallinari and Nate Green in an 88-81 home win over Premiata Montegranaro.

Benetton Treviso are two points further back in the standings after Terrell Lyday scored 25 points to lead them to a 77-73 win over Legea Scafati.

Whirlpool Varese took advantage of Eldo Napoli's loss to Montepaschi Siena on Saturday to climb up to fifth with an 87-72 win over Air Avellino.

Delonte Holland poured in 30 points for the victors.

Marco Belinelli was the star of the show as Climamio Bologna beat TDShop.it Livorno 95-89.

Belinelli poured in 29 points to lead the way, while Tyus Edney added 23.

Paul McPherson scored 25 points for Livorno, who remain dead last in the Lega A standings.

Angelico Biella beat Bipop Carire R.Emilia 67-57, Snaidero Cucine Udine saw off Pallacanestro Cantu 100-91, and Upea Capo d'Orlando edged out Siviglia Wear Teramo 88-84.
