In a re-match from last year’s semi-finals, Gambrinus Sika Brno  once again came out on top with a 62-46 triumph over US Valenciennes.

Gambrinus, after an opening setback to start the season, are resembling their side which beat USVO 61-54 in the Final Four a year ago en route to the title.

Meanwhile, USVO is tredding unfamiliar waters.

The French outfit has been in the Final Four in five of the last six seasons, but are now 1-3 overall in Group C.

Gambrinus set the tone early in this evening’s match-up by going on a decisive 17-2 first quarter run. They never trailed afterwards.

Down 4-3 early on, Deanna Nolan hit a jumper to start the spurt.

Sofia Young scored six points during the run and a basket from Alena Kovacova put Brno in charge 20-6.

USVO fought back in the second quarter and got to within three points and trailed 35-29 at the half.

The two sides were still separated by six points after three quarters of play, and then Jan Bobrovsky’s women delivered the knockout blow with a 13-0 run to start the fourth.

Jana Vesela and Zuzana Zirkova opened the final stanza by connecting on three-pointers.

A lay-up and three-pointer from Hana Machova followed by a steal and break-away lay-up from Vesela put Brno in front 58-39.

USVO would finish the fourth quarter with just seven points as Gambrinus wrapped up their third straight win of the season.

Vesela had her season-high with 13 points, while Young had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Sandrine Gruda was the lone player in double figures for USVO with 11.

The 19-year old has now tallied double-digit scoring in all four of her EuroLeague Women games.
