Solid Defense Helps Bourges Improve To 3-0
// 15 November 2006

Behind a stingy defense, Bourges defeated Dexia 66-54 and improved to 3-0 on the young season.

The French outfit limited Dexia to 32 percent shooting on two-point field goals and 31 percent from beyond the arc.

Dexia was able to score more than 12 points in only one quarter.

Their offensive woes began in the first quarter when they were held to just 12 points as Bourges jumped out to a 19-12 lead.

Dexia were able to get within one point going into halftime, but in the third, Pierre Vincent’s women stepped up their defense again.

The Belgian outfit was limited to just 11 points in the third stanza as Bourges was able to open up a double-digit lead going into the fourth.

Bourges wasn’t setting the world on fire either as they shot just 39 percent overall from the field for the game.

But their solid defense in the fourth negated their less than spectacular offense as Bourges notched the win.

Along with their defensive effort, Bourges also was able to dominate the boards. They held a 52-35 rebounding advantage, led by Sonja Kireta’s 13.

Vicky Hall led the Bourges offense with 17 points, while Cathy Melain added 15.

Cathrine Kraayeveld scored 14 in a losing cause for Dexia, which dropped to 0-3 on the season.
