Pecs overpower Dexia Namur in Hungary


MiZo Pecs went on a huge run bridging the first and second quarters en route to an 82-57 mauling of Dexia Namur in first round EuroLeague Women action.

The Hungarian giants, one of the top sides in the competition in recent seasons, did find resistance early.

They only led 8-7 three minutes into the game when Krystyna Szymanska-Lara went up and scored for Dexia.

That's when the hosts took command with center Timea Ivkovicné Béres landing telling blows at the start of a 23-5 spurt. She poured in 10 points either on lay-ups or at the free throw line, and finished the game with a game-high 22 points.

MiZo made a commitment to getting the ball inside and it paid dividends as they earned 29 trips to the line and converted 21 of those opportunities.

By contrast, Dexia were a mere six of 10 from the charity stripe.

MiZo's defense and rebounding were also superior. They grabbed 38 boards to just 28 for Dexia, and they forced the Belgians into 21 turnovers while committing just 12 of their own.

During their huge surge, MiZo actually reeled off 15 consecutive points.

That run was was sparked by the home side's Nóra Bujdosó, who nailed a three-pointer to make it 20-12.

Dexia, led by Katryna Gaither's 17 points, had to play damage limitation the remainder of the game.
