Agnieszka Bibrzycka had by far her best game since joining Spartak Moscow as the Russian giants moved to 5-0 on the season following a 75-61 win over USO Mondeville.
The Polish star entered play averaging a modest 11.5 with her new team, but this evening she made her biggest impact of the season by scoring 23 points, including a critical nine in the fourth quarter.
With the game tied at 54 to start the fourth quarter, Bibrzycka scored five points during a 9-2 Spartak run which gave the visitors a 63-56 advantage.
Spartak maintained their lead throughout the fourth and then Bibrzycka and teammate Tina Thompson capped the impressive fourth quarter display.
Bibrzycka’s jumper at the 3:22 mark extended the Spartak lead to 70-61.
A Thompson lay-up at the 1:22 mark followed by Bibrzycka lay-up with 55 seconds to go put Natalia Hejkova’s side up 74-61.
Bibrzycka and Co outscored USO Mondeville 21-7 in the final stanza.
Thompson scored 18 points and grabbed 13 boards. Bibrzycka, in addition to her strong offensive performance, also contributed five rebounds and five steals.
Silvia Janostinova, who entered play averaging just 3.5 ppg, finished with a team-high 21 for Mondeville, who battled Spartak tough for three quarters.
The French side actually led by double-digits in the opening quarter and looked like they could possibly pull off the upset.
But Spartak got back in the game in the second quarter and trailed by two going into the half before ultimately delivering the knockout blow in the final quarter.
Mondeville fell to 2-3 on the season.
