Laura Macchi is optimistic and fully focused on helping Beretta-Famila Schio fight for honours in Italy and Europe.
Schio are one of Italy's representatives in the EuroCup Women.
But Macchi, 28, still feels pangs of regret, she says, when it comes to the national team.
The Azzurre had a chance to cause a major stir in the women's game this summer at the EuroBasket in Chieti, but Macchi and Co narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals.
Italy coach Gianni Lambrushi may not hold onto the position as a result.
"I am saddened that too much fault is placed on him and what wasn't considered was the fact that we went to the EuroBasket without two of our key players in (Simona) Ballardini and (Mariangela) Cirone," she said in Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I think everyone's mentality has to change."
If Lambruschi does not remain at the helm and try to steer Italy into the next EuroBasket Women, Macchi said: "We must find a coach that gives the same enthusiasm, who will and hard work as Lambruschi has."
"But whoever arrives should bring new ideas."
