Polish champions Lotos Gdynia quelled speculation regarding the future of Margo Dydek on Wednesday at a press conference in which President Mieczyslaw Krawczyk introduced some key roster changes for the 2005/2006 season.

Dydek, who was also at the press conference, announced that she will take a break from basketball until at least Christmas for personal reasons.

Due to Dydek's decision to step down indefinitely, Krawczyk announced that Gdynia has decided to hire Slovenian center Rankica Sarenac and Serb & Montenegrin guard Gordana Kovacevic.

Kovacevic averaged 16.3 ppg for Euroleasing Sopron in last year's EuroLeague Women.

Krawczyk also said that negotiations have taken place to sign a WNBA player who will join the squad in January 2006, but for the moment no official announcement would be made.

If anybody deserves a rest from basketball it is Margo Dydek.

The 213 cm center has played seven consecutive seasons with Gdynia, whilst also playing in the WNBA and representing the Polish national team.

In August this year, she put her commitments with the WNBA's Conneticut Sun on hold for one week in order to fly back to Poland for 2 games in a bid to help her national team qualify for EuroBasket Women.

Poland qualified, but Dydek was unable to join the team again for the final round in Turkey, as the Sun made it all the way to the WNBA finals before losing to the Sacramento Monarchs in 3 games.

Dydek has been Gdynia's outstanding perfomer since joining the club in 1998, leading the side to the EuroLeague Women Final Four in 2002 and 2004.

Although Dydek did not give a timetable for a return to the court, she did not rule out re-joining Gdynia for the second half of the season.
