Jordi Villacampa won a lot of trophies as a player at DKV Joventut.

Now, thanks to their EuroCup triumph over BC Khimki on April 9, he has tasted glory for the first time since becoming club president in 1999.

More than 100 DKV Joventut fans waited at Barcelona's airport to welcome their heroes back after they lifted the EuroCup in Kyiv with an 88-63 victory over BC Khimki.

Rudy Fernandez was the name on their lips after his displays which earned him the MVP award in the final and his progress marks that of his club who have already set their sights on bigger goals.

DKV Joventut forward Alex Mumbru was devastated when he was dropped from Spain's squad for last year's EuroBasket.

It was a huge blow to his pride, especially after he had taken part in the qualification stages.

Rudy Fernandez claimed his second major Most Valuable Player award in his young career following a stellar performance at the EuroCup Final Four.

The 21-year old put up a game-high 22 points in the semi-finals and followed that up by scoring 17 in the finals to win the MVP.

Rudy Fernandez may have garnered MVP honours at the EuroCup Final Four in Kyiv, but on one of the deepest rosters in European basketball, team-mate Lubos Barton was a telling contributor in DKV Joventut's run to the title.

The Czech forward played an instrumental part in DVK's defeat of home side BC Kyiv in the semi-finals, scoring 8 of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.

It has been more than 10 years since DKV Joventut have won a European title.

That streak could be snapped tonight if the Spanish club can take down BC Khimki in the EuroCup championship game tonight at 18:45 Ukraine time at the Sports Palace in Kyiv.

BC Kyiv made up for some of the disappointment of Friday's EuroCup semi-final loss with victory on Sunday against Dynamo St Petersburg.

The game was a repeat of last year's FIBA Europe League final in Istanbul, which Dynamo won 85-74 to win the championship.  

Russian basketball has seen tremendous growth in recent years that has allowed the league to reach a level close to some of the top leagues in Europe.

Case in point can be the Russian clubs performances in the EuroCup.
