Remember Ieva Kublina and the Latvians at last year's EuroBasket Women in Chieti?

Of course you do.

They wowed audiences with their passing, shooting and fast breaks. They made basketball look attractive.

No wonder hundreds of fans from the Baltics have travelled to Madrid to watch them play at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women.

Kublina and Liene Jansone, well, they are probably two of the most underrated low post players in the world.

They're able to score from anywhere on the court, and they're tough as nails on defence, too.

Nothing has changed about their game one year on, something we discovered this week in Spain where the Latvians have been turning on the style.

Something has changed about Kublina's appearance, though. FIBA Europe investigated and uncovered the hairy truth in `24 Seconds with Ieva Kublina'.

FIBA Europe: Ieva, there's something different about you. It's your hair. Weren't you a brunette last year?

Ieva Kublina: (laughing) Yes, it was blond before, so I turned it back to blond.

FIBA Europe: Well, it looks good. Seriously now, how desperate are you to go to the Olympics?

Ieva Kublina: Latvia, since it gained independence, we've never been to the Olympics for sports like basketball or volleyball, so it's important for us.

FIBA Europe: How did you get involved in the sport?

Ieva Kublina: I got involved because my mom used to play for TTT Riga and my dad used to play, too, a little bit. So it's kind of in the family and they took me to practices.

FIBA Europe: Well, to be a good athlete, one needs to eat well. So tell us, what's the best kind of food you can eat in Latvia?

Ieva Kublina: (smiles) Anything that my mom makes. She's a really good cook, so you should try it.

FIBA Europe: Yes, we'd like that very much. Is she here?

Ieva Kublina: Yes she's here in Madrid watching us.

FIBA Europe: So what does she cook, fish?

Ieva Kublina: Latvians, I guess, we eat more meat, potatoes - that kind of stuff. But it's really good, and healthy, too.

FIBA Europe: What do you like to do when you switch off basketball?

Ieva Kublina: I just like to relax and go to the beach, because we have the Baltic Sea. I like to hang out with my friends, go to the movies, that kind of stuff.

FIBA Europe: Is there a lot of nightlife at the beach?

Ieva Kublina: First you go to the beach, then you go back to Old Riga. That's where all the clubs are.

FIBA Europe: You've just finished the season with Dynamo Moscow. What is it like playing and living in that city?

Ieva Kublina: It's expensive to live there. It's like a big city. It has its good parts and bad parts. There are lots of places to go and to eat, places to see. On the other hand, there are lots of traffic jams.

FIBA Europe: Do you drive there?

Ieva Kublina: No, we have a driver, thank God.

FIBA Europe: Will you play there again?

Ieva Kublina: I don't know. I haven't signed, yet.

FIBA Europe: What did you like about America when you played at Virginia Tech?

Ieva Kublina: I liked how we got a lot of fans, even for women's basketball. I have good memories of college.

FIBA Europe: What are you going to do when basketball is over?

Ieva Kublina: I don't know. It's hard to tell.

FIBA Europe: Okay, back to the Olympics. What do you think would be special about travelling to China to play at the Beijing Games?

Ieva Kublina: Just to be there, to be able to play against the best countries in the world and just the whole atmosphere, to see what everything is like. It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Latvia.
