FIBA Europe, in collaboration with FIBA Americas, authored the Teaching Materials For Referees in 2011.
Now FIBA Oceania has received the innovative multimedia teaching tool, as it has already happened in previous years.
FIBA Oceania thanked both FIBA Europe and FIBA Americas for their generosity in providing this outstanding resource free of charge to the Oceania zone.
"This is an excellent resource" stated FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith.
"We are very thankful to FIBA Europe for producing and even more, for sharing it with us."
Access to resources such as the flash drive is valuable to referees, but the FIBA Europe Referee Department acknowledges theoretical knowledge alone is not enough, as referees from Oceania get relatively few chances to gain experience at the top international level.
That is why FIBA Oceania is increasingly looking to Europe in its bid to improve the level of referees from the zone.
During the summer, three referees from Oceania made the long trip to Europe to participate in Youth European Championships and gain valuable experience in top-level competition.
Damian James Lyons was invited by FIBA Europe to officiate at the U20 European Championship in Bilbao and, despite jet-leg, the experiences were overwhelmingly positive.
The good experiences gained this summer led to an extension of the exchange programme in previous years.
In 2012, FIBA Oceania referees will again make the move around the globe to further strengthen the bonds between FIBA Europe and FIBA Oceania.
