Alan Richardson At Scottish Referees Seminar

29 September 2010

FIBA Europe Referee Instructor Alan Richardson was recently present at the 2010-11 basketballscotland pre-season seminar for officials that took place in the picturesque city of Perth.

Six basketballscotland referee assessors and 44 referees (encouragingly 20 of whom were under the age of 25) attended the annual clinic to help prepare referees for the season ahead, increase their basketball knowledge and develop their feel for the game.

Special guest Alan Richardson, formerly one of Britain's best FIBA referees, was able to provide an on floor presentation regarding Post Play and Hand Checking. Alan also delivered a very informative session on Game Management and passed on invaluable experience and advice to all those in attendance.

After basketballscotland C.E.O. Kevin Pringle opened the seminar, Scottish National Instructor Chris Dodds presented the 2010 rule changes and used the new 2010 FIBA Europe Teaching Materials to deliver a video session with a particular focus on Act Of Shooting, Charge/Block, Flopping and Unsportsmanlike fouls. Basketballscotland Referee Observers Tom Stobo and Ian Watt also led on court sessions on Trail and Lead Mechanics, which some of the younger referees found particularly useful.

Copies of the 2010 FIBA Europe Teaching Materials and tutor notes were made available to all referees who attended, and they were encouraged to watch the whole DVD in addition to reading the rules book, mechanics manual and official FIBA Interpretations to enhance their knowledge and refereeing ability.
