Maria Stepanova of the Russian national team and VBM-SGAU Samara will be presented with the first-ever FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year trophy in Pecs, Hungary during the EuroLeague Women All-Star game on 8 March.
Stepanova was unanimously selected as the 2005 FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year based on a vote from international media.
In 2005, Stepanova played a major role in VBM-SGAU Samara’s title run and helped Russia to a silver medal in EuroBasket 2005.
She led Samara last year with 13.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while shooting 48.9% from the field. With Russia at the EuroBasket Women, Stepanova posted 18 points and 9.6 rebounds per game and was named the Most Valuable Player of the competition.
She will be receiving the official custom-designed trophy during the opening minutes of the All-Star game.
The All-Star game begins at 18:05 local time and will feature the best European players taking on the World team.
