The Year of Women's Basketball was celebrated this past weekend in Austria with the start of the Austria Women's Basketball League (AWBL).

To celebrate the FIBA Europe initiative, all nine teams from the AWBL tipped-off their seasons in one gym located in Gratkorn.

Following Saturday's opening contest, a gala dinner was held for all the players.

The next day featured four AWBL games. There was significant spectator attendance and the event generated media coverage from local television and newspapers.
