German national team star of the Dallas Mavericks will be receiving the 2005 FIBA Europe Player of the Year trophy on Wednesday, April 19 in his team’s last regular season game.
FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin will present Nowitzki with the custom-designed trophy just before tip-off of the Dallas Mavericks home match-up against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Nowitzki was announced as the 2005 FIBA Europe Player of the Year in January due to his stellar past season in which he led the German national team to the silver medal at EuroBasket 2005 and post career-highs in the NBA for points (26.2), assists (3.1) and blocks (1.5).
He was selected as the winner of the inaugural FIBA Europe Player of the Year award based on a vote from international media.
Nowitzki has followed up 2005 with an exceptional year in 2006. He has led the Mavericks to a 59-19 record and is considered to be one of the top candidates for the NBA Most Valuable Player award.
The Wurzburg native will have the opportunity to represent his country at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan later this year.
