Celin Dumerc - France v Great Britain, London Olympics - 03/08/2012
Going, going, gone - having run the floor, Celine Dumerc rises for the three-point shot that will win for France the game against Olympic Games hosts Great Britain

France's Celine Dumerc nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer to stun Great Britain in overtime in the women's Olympic basketball tournament on Friday night.

The Brits, searching for their first win of the London Games, had the unbeaten French on the ropes but Dumerc rescued her team and kept them unbeaten and at the top of Group B.

Britain made one of two free-throws to tie the game with 10 seconds to play and Dumerc quickly dribbled up the floor and made the shot from the arc.

The ball didn't touch the rim as it fell through the hoop.

Dumerc thought of passing to Edwige Lawson-Wade but her coach, Pierre Vincent, told her to go for the three-pointer.

"I often take the shot in training for fun but it rarely swishes," Dumerc said.

"It's an intense moment. But what I remember is the collective victory."

Sandrine Gruda and Lawson-Wade had 16 points apiece for France with Isabelle Yacoubou contributing 15 and Florence Lepron weighing in with 14.

Nevriye Yilmaz poured in 16 points for Turkey as they won their game against China, 82-55.

The Chinese lost for the first time while the Turks moved into second place behind undefeated Team USA in Group A.

The United States were 88-61 winners over the Czech Republic in a rematch of the Final of the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women.

Diana Taurasi poured in 18 points for the United States.

Australia held on for a 70-66 victory over previously unbeaten Russia.

Liz Cambage made headlines for the Opals by dunking, believed to be the first slam in an Olympic women's tournament.

The defeat was Russia's first at the Olympics.

Croatia also tasted victory for the first time at an Olympic Games, winning 75-66 over Russia.

Ana Lelas had 23 points for the Croatians.
