Regal Barcelona big man Erazem Lorbek of Slovenia has decided to skip a FIBA World Championship for the second time in his career.
Lorbek, voted to the All-Tournament team at EuroBasket 2009 last summer after helping his country make a first-ever appearance in the Semi-Finals, says he needs a break after a long campaign with Barca.
He helped the Slovenians qualify for the 2006 FIBA World Championship but also decided to skip the event to rest.
"Erazem needs time to rest and recover from injuries," Slovenia coach Memi Becirovic said.
"He has been honest.
"It's better that he takes time to rest this year and be at the next EuroBasket, where we will try to qualify for the Olympic Games."
Lorbek has been among the best players in a star-studded Barcelona team that has beaten Real Madrid in the Supercopa, the Copa del Rey and the Euroleague Quarter-Finals.
He will be in action at the Euroleague Final Four in Paris on May 7 when Barcelona take on the side he played for last year, CSKA Moscow.
Barcelona have also clinched first place in the ACB regular season.
"The season has been very long and very hard and I haven't rested for two years," Lorbek said.
"In the future, I will accept the invitation to return to the national team."
