UMMC - Russian Special Olympics Championship, December 2011
The All-Russian Special Olympics Basketball and Unified Basketball 2011 Championship in Verkhnyaya Pyshma attracted spectators of all ages

There was plenty of intense competition and a lot of smiles to go around just a few days before Christmas at the UMMC Sport Arena in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Russia.

Fans were treated to the All-Russian Special Olympics Basketball and Unified Basketball 2011 Championship for the UMMC Basketball Club Cup.

There were 24 teams of young athletes who hailed from 16 different regions of Russia taking part in the event.

Among the players was Sergey Bublyakov, a champion of the European Special Olympics in Turkey and a second-place winner of the World Special Olympic Summer Games in Greece.

"Basketball is everything for me - my life, my friends, my family and possibility to see the world," Bublyakov said.

Competitors were divided into three groups according to their age and gender.

All the winners were awarded with prizes and UMMC Basketball Club Cups.

Women 12-15 years - 1st place Novosibirsk region, 2nd place - Omsk, 3rd place - Chelyabinsk region, 4th place - Sverdlovsk region (Ekaterinburg).

Women 16-21 years: 1st place Sverdlovsk region (Ekaterinburg), 2nd place Perm region, 3rd place Moscow.

Men 12-15 years First Division: 1st place Sverdlovsk region (Ekaterinburg), 2nd place Perm region, 3rd place Astrakhan region.

Men 16-21 years: 1st place Chelyabinsk region, 2nd place Vladimir region, 3rd place Kemerovo region, 4th place Sverdlovsk region (Ekaterinburg).

Men 22 and older: 1st place Sverdlovsk region (Ekaterinburg), 2nd place Vologda region, 3rd place Komi Republic, 4th place Tyumen region.
