Another year, another Czech Mattoni NBL title celebration for CEZ Basketball Nymburk

CZE Nymburk underlined their dominance of Czech basketball by sweeping BK Prostejov in the play-off finals to clinch a ninth consecutive domestic title.

After brushing aside Levice 3-0 in the quarter-finals, Nymburk won 3-1 over BC Kolin to advance to the championship series.

Prostejov, who played in this season's EuroChallenge, overcame Ostrava 3-0 in the quarter-finals and then scraped a 3-2 victory over BK Decin in the semis.

Nymburk then made quick work of Prostejov, winning their showdown 4-0.

"We had already celebrated after advancing to the finals," said the coach of Prostejov, Zbynek Choleva.

"Although we wanted to bring more drama to the finals, as everyone could see, we didn't have enough to resist the enormous pressure from our opponents.

"We are very happy with the silver (runners-up finish), which was our goal and not at all simple, because we had a new and relatively young team.

"So I'm really glad that we managed to achieve this objective."

Nymburk finished top of the Czech NBL standings with 34 wins in 36 games, ahead of second-place Prostejov and third-place BK Decin (both 25-11).

In Game 1 of the play-off finals, Prostejov had a dream start.

They led 25-16 by the end of the first quarter but Ronen Ginzburg's Nymburk hit back in the second quarter and went to the changing rooms with a 43-41 advantage.

Nymburk then grabbed a stranglehold on the contest by outscoring the visitors 23-11 in the third quarter.

Chester Simmons' 13 points paced a balanced Nymburk attack.

The rest of the series was a rout for Nymburk.

They romped to a an 88-58 Game 2 success, 84-66 win in Game 3 and 84-67 triumph in Game 4.

Kamil Svrdlik, the Prostejov power forward, said Nymburk had been deserving winners.

But he nevertheless felt his team should have made things more difficult for them.

"We all believed it," he said.

"During the season, we coped quite well on their (Nymburk's) home court.

"Every game (in the finals), we went in looking to succeed."

Nymburk also reached the quarter-finals of the Eurocup, while they won eight of their 16 games in the VTB United League.
