|Spanish international Marta Fernandez had 10 points to help Perfumerias Avenida clinch their third consecutive Supercopa |
The signings of Roneeka Hodges and Nicole Powell have already paid huge dividends for Perfumerias Avenida.
The pair made big plays on Tuesday night, and Spain internationals Marta Fernandez and Marta Xargay had important contributions as Perfumerias prevailed 68-59 over Girona in the Spanish Women's Supercup, the Supercopa.
Perfumerias won the event for the third straight year and making the occasion extra special was that the contest was played in their own Wurzburg Arena in Salamanca.
Hodges, having only just penned a one-month deal with Perfumerias, led the team with 19 points.
Powell, who played for Wisla Can-Pack Krakow at the 2012 EuroLeague Women Final Eight in Istanbul, hit a three-ball - her only points on the night - with a minute and a half remaining for a 64-57 lead.
The shot effectively clinched victory.
Powell is back for a second spell at Perfumerias, the club she once represented in the EuroLeague Women All Star Game 2007.
Xargay had 11 points and led the defensive effort with five steals.
Fernandez poured in 10 points and Lithuania's Egle Sulciute 13 points, a game-high nine rebounds and four assists.
"I knew that it was important to start the season by winning today's game, that it would help the team," Xargay said.
"We need to work to have a good start to the league (Liga Femenina). We have a very important first game.
"Hopefully this will not be the only title that we will get this year.
"Today and tomorrow we'll enjoy the Supercopa, but then start preparing the league opener."
Perfumerias' first league game will be at home on 20 October to Rivas Ecopolis, the club that finished runners-up in the 2011-12 EuroLeague Women.
The Salamanca outfit launch their EuroLeague Women campaign at ZVVZ USK Prague on 24 October.
